Boot Care
Gore-Tex® boots: why would they need waterproofing?
When you are treating a Gore-Tex® construction boot, you are not necessarily making it more waterproof, but keeping the boot healthy. The best way to think off this is to compare the leather to your skin. When you're outside all day the sun, wind, etc. can really dry out your skin. The same thing can happen to leather. Treating your boots will keep the leather in great shape, making the boot a longer lasting, more waterproof product.
Keep in mind, treatments will darken the leather's color and may reduce the texture or touch/feel on some of the Nubuk and split grain leathers. This is purely cosmetic and does NOT affect the performance of the product.
How To Clean My Boots?
Use a wet cloth to clean all the dirt from the outside of the boot.
To clean the inside, remove the foot beds and use a damp cloth to wipe away dirt and body salts
How To Dry My Boots?
Open up your boots to allow some air to circulate inside. Remove the laces, pull back the tongue and take out the foot beds. If your boots are soaking wet, try stuffing them with newspaper to soak up some of the moisture.
ALWAYS dry boots out at room temperature.
NEVER dry your boots next to a fire or the oven or any heat source! (This type of heat damages leather and makes your boots dry and brittle.)
BE PATIENT. Drying boots can take a several hours!
How To Waterproof and Condition My Boots?
Even if youve purchased Gore-tex® lined boots you should still waterproof/condition the leather as this will extend the life of your boots.
Treat the outside of your boots with a water-based waterproofing product.
Many Companies recommend Grangers waterbased products.
* These brands have special formulas for Nubuck/Suede leather, Fabric/Leather, smooth leathers, etc. Follow product instructions for initial and re-application.
For leather-lined boots, follow the above instructions for the outside of your boots, AND use saddle soap to clean the inside leather lining.
These products may slightly darken the color of the leather but they will not affect the performance of the boot.
WE DO NOT RECOMMEND: Silicon based sprays or pastes (i.e. Sno seal, Wynns), Shoe polish, Mink Oil or any products other than water-based waterproofing agents
